Brief History
Society founded by Late S. Amar Singh Kamboj, on 16th April 1967 celebrated its Golden Jubliee in 2017. Patiala School for The Deaf and Patiala School for The Blind are pioneers in fields of special education in whole of North India. Patiala School for The DeafBlind started to serve this segment of Society also in 2012 Patiala early Intervention centre for Deaf Infants started in 2020. Schools are providing FREE residential special education to all students from 1967 to 2017 since inception to students from 13 States of India.
Mission
- To provide World Class facility and residential special education to deaf, blind and DeafBlind children from Pre Nursery to Class XII totally free to students from all over India.
- The latest addition is Patiala Early Intervention centre for Deaf Infants where training will be given to newly born deaf children along with mothers to eliminate deafness.
- To provide Diploma in Vocational trades after Class XII.
Motto – To make special children Services Providers, NOT Service Seekers.
Achievements And Awards
- Society was awarded Best NGO (Disabilities) Punjab State Award by Govt. of Punjab in 2014.
- Society was declared as the Best NGO by Govt. of India in Child Welfare and National Award was presented by President of India in 2015.
- Till now approx. 900 deaf and 600 blind children have passed out successfully from the schools.
- 100 percent success rate in board exams
- Large number of blind students have done PHD and gainfully deployed in class I posts also.
- All deaf students gainfully employed and part of inclusive society
- Many students represented India in sports in International event and won medals.
- Society has a built up area of over 1.30 lakh sq feet, with 52 class rooms, separate hostel for girls and boys to accommodate up to 500 students with 400 in he hostel. It has a most modern Dining hall with kitchen and is spread in 3 acres of land. One of the biggest special educational schools in India.
- The Deaf and Blind schools are not in receipt of any Grant from the Government or from any corporate body. We need to raise finances so that we can provide the best residential education to these deprived children.
- Society has Its own, Sewerage treatment plant, Solar water heating capacity 10,000.
- liters and Solar Steam cooking system for cooking of food.
- Has organized cultural and sport sevenths at the National level.
- It has staff of approx 80 members to provide quality education and support to the dear,blind and DeafBlind children and look after all their needs.
