- This is a very special category of children who are Blind. The first year stress is laid on occupational therapy to improve the physical and mental level by expert teachers.
- Thereafter, emphasis is placed on daily living skills such as personal care, mobility and independent functioning to promote self-reliance.
- The latest assistive technology equipment is available in the school.
- Patiala School for the Blind was started in Apr 1967, when there was no awareness of the need of special education to the blind children. It is a pioneer in special education to Blind in North India.
- The school is from Pre Nursery Class to Class XII. It is Co educational and residential for girls and boys. Priority is given to children from poor and from rural areas for admission. Preference is given to girls as there are very few schools with hostel for blind girls. The teacher to students ratio is 1: 8.
- School provides state of the art special education and is well equipped with all training aids and appliances. It has a has all the modern teaching aids for the blind, such as, Go Vision, Readit Scanner, Orcam, Esight, Daisy player, modern computer lab with NVDA and JAWS software with regular internet connections.
- The school provides a robust digital library for the blind students, providing syllabus based audio books, tactile books, and Braille books to ensure accessible and comprehensive learning.
- All teachers are qualified as per requirements and stress is also laid on smart classes. All children are proficient in use of computers, internet and search operations etc.
- Teachers have proper lessons plans as per which classes are taken and teaching imparted. Adequate stress is on learning Braille which is compulsory in this school.
- Laptops and Daisy player are provided to the blind students from Classes 9 to 12 on a need basis to support independent learning and digital accessibilty.
- Likewise stress is also laid on Mobility training and proper tests are designed to test them.
- Stress is laid upon extracurricular activities and all children are made to participate. Sports are encouraged and several students have brought glory in International events. Students also excel in cultural events, and singing and instruments music.

- School has its own Braille printing press unit to print books on Braille as normally there is shortage of books in Braille.
- Stress is laid on education through reading Braille books rather than by audio methods. Regular competitions are held in reading and writing Braille.

- School has two music teachers for Vocal and Instruments. All students must learn to play at least instruments efficiently.
